Live Html Preview And Sqlite Tables

Two parts of the Coding Hub got major upgrades today: web pages (HTML, CSS and JavaScript) and database queries (SQLite).

1. HTML, CSS and JavaScript — Live Preview

  • Write your page and it appears in the Preview tab.

  • With Live switched on, the page updates as you type, with no need to press Run.

  • Choose Full, Tablet or Phone to check how your page looks at different widths.

  • Open shows the page in a full browser tab.

  • A console strip under the preview shows messages and errors from your page.

Several files: keep index.html, style.css and script.js in separate tabs. If your HTML links to them, the preview uses what is open in your tabs. A CSS file on its own is previewed on a sample page.

Features such as localStorage work during the preview. The preview also reports itself if it cannot start, with a tip to use Open.

2. SQLite Tables

Choose SQLite, write your statements and press Run.

  • Every SELECT shows as a table with column headers, numbered rows, a row count and right-aligned numbers.

  • Changes such as INSERT show a short message like 2 rows inserted.

  • CSV copies a table for Excel or Sheets.

  • Tables in this run lists every table you created.

  • SHOW TABLES and DESCRIBE work.

MySQL-style code is adapted automatically. A yellow note tells you what changed (for example, AUTO_INCREMENT becomes AUTOINCREMENT).

The database lasts only for the current run. Keep your CREATE and INSERT statements at the top of the file.

3. JavaScript and TypeScript

  • Both run instantly in your browser.

  • TypeScript errors show the correct line numbers. A full type-check is available from the command palette (Ctrl + K).

Q1. My preview is blank.

Check the console strip for an error and make sure the files named in your <link> and <script> tags are open in tabs. Press Open to try a full tab.

Q2. Where did my tables go after I ran again?

Each run starts empty. Put CREATE and INSERT at the top.

Q3. Does this connect to a real MySQL database?

No. It is a practice playground that runs in your browser.
