This guide explains how to use file uploads, manage Subject Memory, improve your answers, and use the mentor responsibly.
1. Uploading Files and Images
Use the attach button to add study material to a subject chat.
Supported materials include:
PDFs: Notes, slides, question papers, and textbooks.
Images: Photos of handwritten notes, diagrams, or questions printed in a book.
The mentor can read pages and pictures directly, including scanned documents, so you do not need to type the content again.
After uploading, you can ask questions such as:
"Summarise this chapter in 10 points."
"Solve question 3 from this paper step by step."
"Explain the diagram on page 2."
File Upload Rules
Each account has 50 MB of storage for uploaded study material. Remove files you no longer need to free up space.
Very large files are trimmed, and only some pages of a scanned file are read at a time. A few pages per question work best.
Each message can include a limited number of pictures at once.
Clear photos give better answers. Keep each page straight, well-lit, and in focus.
Managing Uploaded Files
You can open the list of your uploaded files, preview a PDF, and delete a file or clear all at any time.
Deleting a file also removes it from the mentor's reach. If you want to ask questions about that material later, you may need to upload it again.
2. Subject Memory — Teach the Mentor What Matters
Subject Memory lets you save short notes that the mentor remembers for that subject.
For example, you can save instructions such as:
"Focus more on Unit 3 formulas."
"My exam is in English, keep answers short."
"Explain in simple words with real-life examples."
You can:
Add a new note.
Delete an existing note.
Clear all saved notes whenever you like.
The mentor uses these notes in future answers for that subject. This helps you maintain consistent study preferences without repeating the same instructions in every conversation.
Tips for Subject Memory
Keep your notes short and specific. For example, instead of writing "Help me study better," write "Explain each concept in simple words and include one practical example."
Review your saved notes occasionally and remove instructions that are no longer useful.
3. How to Get Better Answers
Follow these tips to make your study sessions more effective.
Be specific. "Explain deadlock with a real-life example" works better than simply asking "deadlock".
Say what you need. Request a definition, step-by-step solution, comparison table, short answer for a 2-mark question, or detailed answer for a 10-mark question.
Upload the material. If your question comes from your notes or question paper, upload the relevant material.
Ask one thing at a time. For step-by-step problems, ask one question and follow up after understanding the answer.
Regenerate if needed. If the answer misses the point, use Regenerate or Reply to ask about the exact part you want clarified.
Check important answers. Verify important facts, formulas, and calculations against your textbook and faculty notes.
Example of a Better Question
Instead of asking:
"What is regression?"
Try asking:
"Explain simple linear regression in machine learning with the formula, a numerical example, and a short answer suitable for a 5-mark exam question."
Providing context and specifying the answer format helps the mentor understand what you need.
4. Privacy and Responsible Use
Keep the following points in mind when using Subject Chat:
Your chats are tied to your account and are not shown to other students.
Do not share passwords, OTPs, or personal documents in the chat.
The mentor is a study aid. It can make mistakes, so verify important facts, formulas, and calculations.
Use it to learn and practise. Do not use it to submit work as your own where your course rules forbid AI help.
Avoid uploading sensitive information that is not needed for your academic question.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Why did my file upload fail?
Check that you have free storage, that the file is a PDF or image, and that it is not extremely large. Delete files you no longer need and try again.
Q2. Can I upload handwritten notes or a photo of a question paper?
Yes. You can upload images of handwritten notes, diagrams, and printed questions. Clear, well-lit images generally make the content easier to read.
Q3. Why did the mentor not read every page of my PDF?
Very large files may be trimmed, and only some pages of a scanned file may be read at a time. Try uploading a smaller document or focusing your question on a few relevant pages.
Q4. What happens when I delete an uploaded file?
Deleting a file removes it from the mentor's reach. You can upload it again if you need to ask questions about it later.
Q5. Does Subject Memory apply to every subject?
Subject Memory is designed for individual subjects. Notes saved for a subject help guide future answers in that subject.
Q6. The answer is wrong. What should I do?
Use Not helpful to provide feedback, then select Report and choose a reason. You can also try Regenerate for another answer. Always cross-check important information with your textbook or faculty notes.
Q7. Is Subject Chat the official university tool?
No. CONNECT SRMAP is an independently developed student platform and is not the official university portal. For official academic records and services, visit https://student.srmap.edu.in/.
Q8. How do I report a problem with Subject Chat?
Email connectsrmap@purlyedit.in with the subject name, what you asked, what happened, and the approximate time. Never include your password or verification codes.
