Laptop Upgrades: Ai Side Panel, Bind Inside The App And A New Profile Menu
A Better Experience on Laptops
CONNECT SRMAP is used on phones, laptops, and desktop computers. To make the experience more convenient for students using laptops in labs, classrooms, and hostels, we introduced several interface improvements.
This guide explains the updated AI side panel, Bind navigation, profile menu, and other usability changes.
1. The AI Side Panel Opens Automatically
On laptops and desktop computers, the AI assistant now opens automatically in a side panel when you enter the app. This makes the assistant readily accessible whenever you need help.
How does it work?
Automatic opening: The AI side panel opens automatically when you enter the app on a laptop or desktop.
Close for three days: If you close the panel, it stays closed for the next three days.
Opens again after three days: Once the three-day period ends, the panel can open automatically again.
Manual opening: If you open the AI panel yourself during this period, the three-day waiting period is cancelled.
Mobile devices: On phones and tablets, the AI panel does not open automatically.
Quick controls: You can turn AI mode on or off using the AI button at the top or by pressing Ctrl + / together.
This behaviour is designed to keep AI assistance accessible without repeatedly interrupting users who prefer to keep the panel closed.
2. Bind Now Opens Inside the App
Previously, selecting Bind on a laptop could take you to a separate page. Returning to the main application could feel like starting over.
With the updated navigation, Bind opens as a tab inside CONNECT SRMAP.
What has changed?
When you select the main Bind option:
Bind opens within the application.
It starts on the Bind Home screen.
You can use the Bind navigation menu to access other sections.
These may include:
Attendance.
Timetable.
Marks and grades.
Other available Bind features.
What if I click a direct Bind link?
Direct links to specific Bind pages continue to open their intended destinations.
For example, if a timetable banner links directly to the timetable page, it can open that page instead of taking you to Bind Home first.
Tip: Use the main Bind tab to start from Home, or select a direct link when you want to open a specific Bind section.
3. A New Profile Menu
The profile menu has been redesigned to make account information and common actions easier to access.
Click your profile photo in the top-right corner to open the menu.
Profile information
The top section displays your available profile details, including:
Profile photo.
Name.
Class.
Section.
Register number.
Available actions
The menu includes clearly presented options for:
View Profile: Open your profile.
SRMAP Bind: Access Bind.
Find Friends: Discover other students.
Account Settings: Manage available account settings.
Share the App: Share CONNECT SRMAP with others.
Share This Page: Share the current page where supported.
Log Out: Sign out of your account.
The redesigned layout uses clearer visual styling to make the options easier to identify.
4. The Profile Menu Stays Above Other Elements
Previously, the profile menu could appear behind a side panel or popup. This made the interface look broken and sometimes made the menu difficult to use.
The updated menu is designed to appear above other interface elements, with a soft dark overlay behind it.
How to close the menu
You can close the profile menu by:
Tapping or clicking outside it.
Pressing Esc.
Selecting the close button marked with a cross.
On phones
The menu expands across the available screen width to make its options easier to tap.
If the menu is taller than your screen, you may need to scroll inside it to access all the options.
5. Additional Profile Menu Improvements
Several smaller improvements make the menu easier to navigate.
Back closes the menu
Pressing Back closes the profile menu instead of immediately navigating away from the page.
Keyboard accessibility
You can open the menu using Enter when its trigger is focused, then navigate through the available options using supported keyboard controls.
Long names fit better
Long names are shortened neatly when necessary to prevent them from breaking the layout.
These changes are intended to improve usability across different screen sizes and input methods.
6. What Changes on Laptops and Phones?
Some improvements apply only to larger screens, while others are available across devices.
| Feature | Laptop/Desktop | Phone/Tablet |
|---|---|---|
| AI panel opens automatically | Yes | No |
| AI panel can be toggled using available controls | Yes | Yes, where supported |

| Profile menu uses the available screen width | Adapts to desktop layout | Expands across the available width |
| Close profile menu using the close button | Yes | Yes |

The precise layout may vary depending on your device, screen size, and the interface version you are using.
7. Troubleshooting Common Problems
The AI panel keeps opening
Close the panel once. It is designed to remain closed for three days on laptops and desktop computers.
If it continues opening unexpectedly, contact support and describe what happens.
Bind opens on Home when I wanted Attendance
The main Bind option opens the Bind Home screen by design.
Use the Bind navigation menu to select Attendance, or open a direct attendance link if one is available.
The profile menu looks cut off
Try scrolling inside the menu to reach the remaining options. On a phone, rotating the device may also provide more usable screen space.
If the problem continues, contact support and include your device model and screen size, if known.
An old menu option appears to be missing
The redesigned menu retains the previously available options and adds or highlights additional actions.
Check the full menu by scrolling through it. If a specific option is genuinely missing, email support with the option's name.
The profile menu appears behind another popup
Try closing the other popup and opening the profile menu again. If the menu still appears behind other elements, report the issue to support.
