Faster Attendance And Timetable Sync: How We Made Bind Refresh Quicker
Why Your University Data Now Shows Up Sooner
CONNECT SRMAP Bind helps students access their attendance, timetable, marks, and grades in one place. To display updated information, the platform must retrieve data from the university website, process it, and organize it into readable pages.
This process can take time, especially when many students refresh their information simultaneously.
We have made several improvements to the Bind syncing process to help information load faster and make refresh progress easier to understand.
1. What Students Told Us
One of the common concerns was that refreshing university information took too long.
The delay was especially noticeable in the morning, when many students checked their attendance before classes.
We focused on identifying the slow steps in the syncing process and reducing unnecessary work.
2. First, We Measured the Sync Process
Before improving performance, we needed to understand where the delays occurred.
We introduced timing measurements for different stages of a sync, including:
Connecting to the university website.
Signing in.
Retrieving individual sections.
Reading and processing the retrieved information.
Saving the results.
Measuring these stages helped identify which parts of the process were taking the most time and where improvements could be made.
3. What We Changed
1. Reduced Repeated Work
Some operations requested the same information multiple times.
We improved these steps so that information could be retrieved once and reused where appropriate, reducing unnecessary requests and processing.
2. Reused Connections During Sync
Opening a new connection for every request adds overhead.
The syncing process now reuses an open connection during a sync where possible, reducing the need to establish separate connections repeatedly.
3. Retrieved Independent Sections Together
Previously, some sections were requested one after another even when they did not depend on each other.
We improved the process so independent sections can be requested together, allowing more work to happen at the same time.
4. Avoided Unnecessary Database Writes
When information has not changed, saving it again is often unnecessary.
The updated process checks whether information needs to be updated and avoids redundant saves where possible.
This reduces unnecessary database operations during syncing.
5. Added Daily Background Refreshing
The platform refreshes commonly used data once a day in the background.
This means Bind may already have recently saved information available when you open it, reducing the need to wait for a fresh retrieval before viewing the page.
Background refreshing does not guarantee that every record is always current. Check the last-updated time and refresh when you need newer information.
6. Improved Sync Progress Information
Previously, waiting for a sync could feel confusing when the page did not clearly show what was happening.
The updated interface provides progress information while syncing is underway.
You can better understand that the process is working rather than seeing only a blank or inactive screen.
4. Better Handling of Multiple Accounts
Some students bind more than one account.
We improved account switching so that moving between bound accounts is smoother.
Each bound account keeps its information separate, helping prevent one account's displayed information from being confused with another's.
If you use multiple accounts, make sure you have selected the correct account before checking attendance, timetable, marks, or grades.
5. What Should You Expect?
The improvements are intended to reduce unnecessary delays, but syncing time can still vary.
First sync after a long break
The first sync may take longer because the platform needs to retrieve information that is not already available in the saved copy.
Subsequent syncs
Later syncs may be faster because the process can reuse connections, avoid repeated work, and skip unnecessary updates.
When the university website is slow or unavailable
CONNECT SRMAP depends on the university website to retrieve fresh information.
If that website is slow or unavailable, Bind may display previously saved information and indicate that the refresh could not be completed.
Remember: Previously saved data is not necessarily the latest data. Check the last-updated time and use the official university portal when you need authoritative records.
6. Tips for Faster and More Reliable Syncing
Follow these suggestions when refreshing your Bind information.
Refresh once and wait
Press Refresh once and allow the process to finish. Repeatedly pressing the button may create additional work and does not guarantee a faster result.
Avoid busy periods when possible
If many students are checking their information at the same time, syncing may take longer. When convenient, try refreshing outside the busiest periods.
Check the last-updated time
Look at the last-updated time displayed on the relevant page to understand how recently the information was refreshed.
Retry after a failed refresh
If syncing fails, wait approximately one minute and try again. The university website may be temporarily busy or unavailable.
Use the official portal for confirmation
If a value appears incorrect or outdated, compare it with the official university portal before relying on it.
7. Understanding Data Freshness
Bind displays information retrieved and saved during the syncing process. The information shown may therefore differ temporarily from what is currently displayed on the university website.
For example:
Bind successfully retrieves your attendance.
The information is saved and displayed in CONNECT SRMAP.
The university updates your attendance later.
Until Bind retrieves the newer information, the previously saved attendance may remain visible.
Refreshing requests newer information, provided the university website is available and the sync completes successfully.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Why is my attendance different from the university portal?
Bind displays the last successfully synced copy of your attendance. If the university has updated its records since that sync, the displayed information may be older.
Refresh Bind to request updated information. For official attendance records, always rely on the university portal.
Q2. My sync failed. What should I do?
Wait approximately one minute and try again. Check your internet connection and whether the university website is available.
If the issue continues, contact support and include the affected page, approximate time, and any error message.
Q3. How often does my data refresh automatically?
The platform refreshes commonly used data once a day in the background. You can also request a refresh manually.
The exact freshness of an individual record depends on whether the latest sync completed successfully.
Q4. Does syncing use a lot of mobile data?
Syncing transfers information between the platform and the university website, so it does use some data. The actual amount depends on the information retrieved and the work required during the sync.
Q5. Can I sync more than one account?
Yes. You can bind more than one account, and each account keeps its own information separate. Select the correct account when viewing your academic information.
Q6. Why is the first sync sometimes slower?
The first sync after a long break may need to retrieve more information than a later refresh. Subsequent syncs can benefit from reduced repeated work and saved information.
Q7. Why does Bind sometimes show old information?
Bind may display previously saved information when a fresh sync has not completed. Check the last-updated time and try refreshing again.
Q8. Does a successful refresh guarantee that every university record is current?
Not necessarily. A completed refresh indicates that the syncing process finished, but the information available from the university website may itself have update delays. Check the official portal if you need confirmation.
Q9. Why should I avoid pressing Refresh repeatedly?
Repeated requests can create unnecessary work and may make the process less efficient. Press Refresh once, wait for the result, and retry only if the operation fails or the information needs updating.
Q10. What should I do if syncing remains slow?
Check your internet connection, wait briefly, and retry. If the issue persists, email support with the page name, approximate time, and any error message.
Q11. Is CONNECT SRMAP the official university portal?
No. CONNECT SRMAP is an independent student-developed platform. For official academic records, use the SRM University-AP student portal.
Q12. How can I report incorrect or outdated information?
Email connectsrmap@purlyedit.in. Mention the affected section, when you last refreshed it, and what appears incorrect. Never include your password or verification codes.
