Remember Me: How Saved Login Details Work And How To Stay Safe
Saving Your Login on Your Own Device
Typing your register number or email address and password every day can be inconvenient. CONNECT SRMAP provides a Remember me (save password) option to make signing in easier on a device you use regularly.
This article explains how the option works, when your details are saved or removed, and how to use it responsibly.
1. What Does Remember Me Do?
When you select Remember me (save password) and log in, CONNECT SRMAP saves your register number or email address and password on that device.
The next time you open the login page in the same browser, your saved details may already be filled in, and the Remember me option will remain selected.
This means you do not have to type your login details every time you visit the login page.
Important: Saving your login details is a convenience feature, not a substitute for keeping your device secure. Only use it on a device that you personally control.
2. Why Was This Feature Changed?
During a previous update, different approaches were tested to make saving login details work consistently.
Initially, the browser's built-in password manager was used. An encrypted storage approach within the page was also tried. However, behaviour differed across browsers and devices, and some students could not reliably save their details.
Based on student feedback requesting the simpler previous experience, the feature returned to a straightforward device-based approach.
With the current described behaviour, your saved details are stored on your own device and used to fill the login fields.
Please remember: Storing details on your device does not automatically make them inaccessible to other people who can use that device.
3. When Are Your Login Details Saved or Removed?
The Remember me option controls whether your login details are retained for future use.
| Action | What happens |
|---|---|
| Select Remember me and log in | Your register number or email address and password are saved on the device. |
| Open the login page again in the same browser | The saved details can be filled in automatically. |
| Untick Remember me and log in again | The previously saved login details are deleted. |
| Clear the relevant browser data or site data | The saved details may be removed. |
| Use a private or incognito window | Saved details may not persist after the private session closes. |
If you want CONNECT SRMAP to stop filling in your details automatically, untick Remember me and log in again, as described below.
4. Use Remember Me Only on Your Own Device
Your saved login details may be accessible to someone who can use your device or inspect its browser storage. The implementation described for this feature does not provide a guarantee that the saved password is hidden from someone with sufficient access to the device.
For this reason, do not enable Remember me on a shared or public computer.
Avoid saving your login details on:
College laboratory computers.
Library computers.
A friend's phone or laptop.
Shared family devices that other people can access.
Any device you do not control.
What if you enabled it by mistake?
If you accidentally saved your login details on a shared device:
Open the CONNECT SRMAP login page on that device.
Untick Remember me (save password).
Log in again so the saved details are removed.
If you cannot access the page or are unsure whether the details were removed, clear the relevant site data in the browser.
If you believe another person may have accessed your account, change your password as appropriate.
If you are using someone else's device, remember to log out of your account as well. Removing saved login details and logging out are separate actions.
5. What About Staff and Admin Login?
The staff or admin login has the same Remember me option and follows the same described rules.
Staff members and administrators should be especially careful when using shared office computers or devices accessible to other people.
Do not save administrative login details on public or shared devices. If you accidentally save them, remove the saved details and follow your organisation's account-security procedures if access may have been exposed.
6. Why Does the Login Page Show a Developer Tools Warning?
On a laptop or desktop browser, opening the browser's developer tools or Inspect panel may cause the login page to display a warning that covers the page.
This is a safety measure intended to discourage inspection or tampering with the login interface.
If the warning appears while you are using the login page:
Close the browser's developer tools or Inspect panel.
Return to the login page.
Continue once the page is visible again.
This warning is a browser-interface measure. It should not be treated as a guarantee that all login information is protected against every form of inspection or attack.
7. Troubleshooting Remember Me
My details were not filled in today
Possible reasons include:
You cleared your browser history, cookies, or site data.
You opened the login page in a private or incognito window.
You previously logged in with Remember me unticked.
You switched to a different browser or device.
Check the Remember me option and save your details again if you are using your own trusted device.
I changed my password
After changing your password, open the login page and enter your new password. Select Remember me and log in to update the saved details.
If the old password continues to appear, remove the old saved details and sign in again with the new password.
I want to stop saving my password
Untick Remember me and log in again. You can also clear the relevant site data for oursrmap.purlyedit.in through your browser settings.
It works on my laptop but not my phone
Saved details are associated with the browser and device being used. Saving them on your laptop does not automatically save them on your phone. Browser settings and storage behaviour may also differ.
I used a private window
Private or incognito browsing is designed to discard much of its session data when the private session closes. Remember me may therefore not behave as it does in a normal browser window.
For more consistent behaviour, use your regular browser on a personal device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. What happens when I enable Remember me?
When you select the option and log in, the feature saves your register number or email address and password on the device. The login fields can then be filled in automatically when you revisit the login page in the same browser.
Q2. Can another student access my saved password?
Someone with sufficient access to your device or browser storage may be able to access saved details. Do not use Remember me on shared devices, and keep your personal devices protected.
Q3. How can I remove my saved login details?
Untick Remember me and log in again. Alternatively, clear the relevant site data for oursrmap.purlyedit.in through your browser settings.
Q4. Does Remember me work in a private or incognito window?
It may not persist as expected. Private browsing sessions generally discard their session data when closed.
Q5. I changed my password. How do I update the saved copy?
Sign in with the new password while Remember me is selected. This is the described way to update the saved login details.
Q6. Does Remember me keep me logged in permanently?
No such guarantee should be assumed. Remember me saves details for filling in the login fields; it is different from a permanent login session.
Q7. Is it safe to use Remember me on a college computer?
It is not recommended. Other people may use the same device or access its browser storage. Use this option only on a device you personally control.
Q8. Why does the login page show a warning when I open Inspect?
The page may display a warning when browser developer tools are open. Close the developer tools to return to the normal login screen.
Q9. Does deleting saved login details log me out automatically?
Removing saved details and logging out are separate actions. If you used a shared device, log out of CONNECT SRMAP and remove any saved login details.
Q10. Where can I get help if Remember me is not working?
Email connectsrmap@purlyedit.in with a description of the problem. Do not include your password, verification codes, or other login secrets.
